The art of Andrew Velez, featuring colorful and dramatic paintings of ancient Mexico, Andrews
art is a reflection of his long time interest in the history, culture and art of pre-hispanic
Mexico. The incident that led to Andrew's interest in this, occurred in 1981, when he picked
up a book about Mexican mural painting, the art of Diego Rivera really stood out to him.
"At the time I didn't know much about Mexican history, so I was amazed and fascinated by his
murals showing historical events, that was no doubt a major influence for me."
This self taught artist from Colorado has been drawing and painting seriously since the late 80's
and hasn't slowed down since. Andrew is also known for his vivid and picturesque paintings of the
deserts, mesas, mountains and canyons of the southwest. His landscape paintings are inspired from
the beautiful lands of this region.
"To enter these places and encounter its beauty and solitude is truly a surreal experience, an
experience that I try to capture in my work."
